    The Seed of Our Inspiration

The Coming Together of Fortuitous Events

The idea of forming a special practice on family business governance was seeded 35 years ago but the spark that created into G. Li & Company was after our work with a family philanthropist who dared us to dream the impossible. Prof. Roger King in 2016, then at HKUST, inspired Dr. G to do more for families ....

Since 1991, Dr. G and his team have been revolutionizing ways and methods in solving complex wicked problems around strategy and governance that cut across cultures, from start-ups to aged-old clan-like institutions. We were brought in to solve some of the most challenging and fun problems for new family offices, NGOs, Charities, and even governments — from designing the first governance structure of the first Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) for the largest IPO global listing then, valued at US$ 23B, to creating the first off-line graduate program on corporate governance at the Open University that ran for decades.

When the students are ready; the teachers will be present.

Today, the challenge of Space Odyssey for families has once again ignited our passion.

Flocking Together to Solve Wicked Challenges

Designing new governance architectures with Prof. Tricker's; to transforming operational improvement with Prof. Foley for a disciplinary force; to reset the family values with Prof. Gordon Redding, and to improving internal controls with Prof CK Cho ... many of these projects would later form the backbone of our work.

    - How can you help prepare my future rule by seeding entrepreneurship for my citizens?

    - How can we use venture capital to groom a real entrepreneur in our family? Can we just invest and not run a business?

    - How can you help us set in a family constitution? Isn't this unnatural for an Asian family?

    - How do you fire your own daughter?

    - How do you manage an incompetent brother who ended up looking after the family jewels?

As we approach the new frontiers of the Digital and Space Economy which inevitably all family businesses must navigate, we are now being asked by our peers and clients to work on even more esoteric, complex, and futurist questions...

How to ensure our family has a place in the NewSpace economy and how can we get there, together as a whole family?
